Laeh Glenn
Laeh Glenn
Laeh Glenn creates meticulously constructed oil paintings that explore the material power of painting in a culture increasingly mediated by screens. Working from “orphan images”—3D models and other digital imagery stripped of context—she gives subjects such as flowers, animals, houses, and landscapes a physical presence absent from their original sources. Trained as a printmaker, Glenn builds her paintings one flat layer of color at a time, assembling form from individual shapes and returning repeatedly to a narrow set of motifs. Her paintings test what happens when digital images acquire a body.
Glenn (b. 1979, United States) received her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles and her BFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, CA; Palazzo Fruscione, Salerno, Italy; and the Cressman Center for Visual Arts, University of Louisville, among others. Glenn is the recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant and the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship. Her work is held in the collections of SFMOMA and Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Glenn lives and works in Sebastopol, CA. Her debut solo exhibition with Jessica Silverman will take place in 2027.
