    Animism Reanimated

    Jessica Silverman is pleased to present “Animism Reanimated,” a curatorial remix of “Conversational Spirits,” which explores animism, a.k.a. the belief system that attributes distinct souls to inanimate objects, plants and other natural phenomena. As the oldest trait in the world’s existing religions, animism is a deep human unifier and potential healer at a time when national, racial and ethnic differences trouble the globe.

    ’s work explores identity, community and change. Indeed, every painting looks like it is in the midst of a revolution, with clashes of abstraction, imploded graphic design and winking asides about Afrofuturism.
    Hayal Pozanti
    ’s latest series, “Thought Forms,” is made in her outdoor studio in Los Angeles, a sprawling megalopolis not unlike her hometown of Istanbul. The works feature organic shapes, pigments and compositions that reflect the artist’s alertness to the nature preserved in garden sanctuaries.
