Among the highlights, Woody De Othello’s freestanding ceramic Not to be told (2024) features a swirling blue glaze across a vessel with facial features recalling the face jugs of West Africa. Hands cradle the form, which rests on a green and brown drum-like base. Othello, whose work is in the permanent collection of the MFA Houston, reinterprets the history, spiritual traditions, and forms of the African diaspora.

Clare Rojas, Swan Mother
In Untitled Art, Houston’s Special Projects, Clare Rojas’s monumental, polished bronze Swan Mother (2022) commands attention. With its sweeping lines and balanced form, the work distills her imaginative figuration into geometric abstraction. Poised like a guardian, the swan’s striking eye surveys its surroundings with quiet authority. The Contemporary Austin holds an edition of the sculpture in their collection.
