Paris+ par Art Basel 2022
October 19-23, 2022
Booth #F16
For the premier edition of Paris+ par Art Basel, Jessica Silverman will present “Nature’s Abstract”, an exhibition of powerful works by gallery artists that examine our relationships to the environments in which we live. Together, Theresa Chromati, Sam Falls, Julian Hoeber, Woody de Othello, Hayal Pozanti, Clare Rojas and Pae White draw materials and inspiration from the natural world to embrace the interconnectedness of life on our planet.
Large scale paintings by Clare Rojas appear abstract at first but are informed by the architecture of domestic spaces. Pae White’s intricate paper clay work captures the texture of weaving and the brilliance of metals, and a new painting by Julian Hoeber depicts layers of architectural archways leading to infinite dimensions.
New to the roster, Falls exposes canvases covered in plant-life and pigments to natural elements—from morning dew to afternoon sun—organically recording ecosystems and the passage of time.
Theresa Chromati's vibrant abstractions feature swirling compositions, glittered surfaces, and soft phallic sculptural embellishments to explore the multiplicity of race and gender through ideas about masculine and feminine forms, textures, and colors. Freestanding in the booth is a new Woody De Othello ceramic sculpture that engages the art historical metaphor of the body as vessel, imbuing house-hold objects with life and psychological depth.
Hayal Pozanti paints dense scenes of landscape and bold otherworldly abstractions. Hayal refers to this expressionistic, gestural and colorful new body of work as ‘visual poetry.’
