Semo’s painted bells use an automotive finish, developed into a palette of layered, iridescent colors built from multiple pearls. As the viewer moves around Aura (2026), the surface reveals a changing spectrum—highlights catching the light at the center, while secondary hues emerge along the edges. When rung, the bell creates rich, reverberating tones that can be felt as much as heard.

Jessica Silverman is pleased to announce participation in Contemporary Istanbul’s 2026 edition, running from September 23 to 27 at Tersane Istanbul in Turkey. Located along the Golden Horn, the fair takes place within the former Ottoman Imperial Shipyard, built in the 15th century and is now a landmark art and culture destination. At Booth B-103, located in the main building, the gallery will present a group exhibition of new and recent works by the artists Hayal Pozanti, Judy Chicago, Andrea Bowers, Beverly Fishman, Atsushi Kaga, Davina Semo, Margo Wolowiec, and Claudia Wieser.

This work is part of Andrea Bowers’ ongoing ecofeminist body of work, Local Plant Studies. An avid gardener, Bowers photographs plant species native to Southern California, highlighting their role in supporting local ecosystems, conserving water, and sustaining biodiversity.
Here, Bowers pairs these images with a passage by writer and activist Deena Metzger, connecting ecological stewardship with broader ideas of care, resilience, and responsibility to the Earth.

In Above the Sun (2026), Margo Wolowiec interlaces windswept alpine blooms, the luminous surface of the Mekong River in Laos at dusk, and refracted light suspended in mist to create a landscape that feels terrestrial and ethereal. Through her distinctive woven translation of digital imagery, Wolowiec captures the fleeting phenomena of light and weather, inviting contemplation of the unseen forces that connect place, perception, and emotion.

As part of Focus Asia, the fair’s curated initiative highlighting the shared cultural and artistic
dialogue between Turkey, Europe, and Asia, the gallery will exhibit Magnolias and Flutes(2025), a work on paper by Japan-born, Dublin-based artist Atsushi Kaga.
In this playful composition, Kaga brings together fishbowls, flutes, lotus flowers, and drifting goldfish in a scene that feels humorous, surreal, and musical. Clarinets pass through glass bowls as floating pathways, while goldfish glide between sound, water, and air.
Kaga often uses whimsical imagery to explore isolation, routine, and longing. Here, the fishbowls suggest contained worlds, while the clarinets link the separate vessels together and allow the fish to move beyond their enclosures.
