Andrea Carlson, L'Assomption Sash for Carrying Things that No Longer Exist #10
Carlson’s high-chroma paintings transform landscape and garment into metaphors of Indigenous memory. Drawing from the visual lexicon of L’Assomption sashes—central to the French-Ojibwe fur trade and historically used to secure tools to the body—Carlson reconfigures these forms into folded, fragmented patterns. Her paintings reclaim lost knowledge as portals to ancestral inheritance.

Wong's painting was inspired by winter skiing in Tahoe, and balances the adventurous thrill of a ski run with the calm, warming respite of après-ski. The title is drawn from the two figures inside who are so engrossed in their conversation, they don’t notice the accident outside.

Julia Chiang's painting features meticulously arranged pointed ellipses that burst across an orange and blue color field. These elements evoke sensations of movement and transformation, reflecting her interest in the body's physical and emotional states. Her creative process is both deliberate and spontaneous, allowing organic shapes to emerge and interact on the canvas. This approach mirrors the unpredictability of bodily and emotional processes, capturing the tension between control and chaos. Julia describes her work as a meditation on the human condition.

Atsushi Kaga, Goldfish in Pink
In this work on paper by Atsushi Kaga, a fish tank sits at the center of a pink background, while goldfish swim freely outside the confines of the tank. Kaga blends two opposing symbolic motifs: the fishbowl as a traditional emblem of captivity, and the goldfish as a symbol of resilience and ambition, to create a narrative of liberation. Rendered in Kaga’s characteristic style that merges innocence with existential reflection, the work gently invites viewers to consider the value of freedom, the illusions of containment, and the quiet power of perseverance.

Mushrooms are a recurring motif in Miki’s practice, especially in her drawings, where they symbolize growth, transformation, and the potent spirits of the natural world. In many cultures, including Japan’s, mushrooms are celebrated not only for their nutritional and ecological roles but also for their hallucinogenic properties. Miki playfully engages with this folkloric knowledge, animating her stacked mushrooms into whimsical, benevolent beings that radiate a subtle, magical energy.
