Join mixed-media visual artist Andrea Carlson (descended from Grant Portage Ojibwe and European settlers, b. 1979) as she discusses her artistic practice in the context of A Constant Sky, her first museum survey organized by the Denver Art Museum. Carlson’s prismatic and meticulous landscapes are filled with visual references to animals, art objects, and cultural belongings. In this talk, Carlson will discuss the works on view at The Ringling and how they challenge colonial narratives presented by modern artists, museum collections, and cannibal genre horror films.
Following the talk, attendees are invited to view the exhibition “Andrea Carlson: A Constant Sky” and enjoy a cocktail reception with the artist on the Museum of Art Loggia.
