Co-presented with the Fowler Museum at UCLA

Mark the closing weekend of “Several Eternities in a Day: Form in the Age of Living Materials” with an afternoon of talks by artists, curators, and more.

Artist Rose B. Simpson kicks off the program with her keynote presentation, followed a thought-provoking panel discussion between artist Carmen Argote, Getty Research Institute curator Idurre Alonso, UCLA professor Kency Cornejo, and Fowler Museum director Silvia Forni, moderated by exhibition curator Pablo José Ramírez.

The symposium will examine topics including the conservation of artworks that continue to change over time, questions of ownership and custodianship regarding contemporary art collections, curatorial practices involving ceremonial and organic materials, and the evolving relationships between artists, institutions, and the living materials they engage. Bringing together perspectives from artistic and curatorial practice, anthropology, philosophy, and the sciences, the symposium invites a rich, interdisciplinary dialogue on the implications of living materials in contemporary art.

The event will be followed by a reception to commemorate the closing of “Several Eternities in a Day”.
